Thanks to Yanks

Hi Everyone, Happy Wednesday and Happy Veteran’s Day!!! We want to thank all of the men and women who served our country and continue to protect our freedom each day. Thank you for all of your service and sacrifice. This week I want to briefly mention the benefits of executing a general durable power of attorney. A general durable power of attorney is effective upon signing and can empower somebody to perform all of your legal and financial responsibilities as you would. These tasks can include writing checks, going to the bank, paying your mortgage, selling real estate, or any other contractual obligations. Many believe that a power of attorney is only useful if you lose capacity, however, it’s not limited to such. A properly drafted general durable power of attorney can largely benefit anybody that is headed to college, travels frequently, is on deployment, or would simply prefer that somebody else manage their affairs. A power of attorney is a useful estate planning tool that can make your life both convenient and provide you with a back-up plan should you lose capacity. Before you hit the road, it is a must-have. So please, contact us before you plan your next journey. Lastly, we want to take a moment to recognize a local non-profit, Thanks to Yanks. Thanks to Yanks provides a variety of resources to local military, veterans, and their families. They also host a fantastic 9/11 tribute dinner each Fall to recognize the sacrifices military families endured in response to the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. FLP is a proud supporter of Thanks to Yanks and is grateful for all that the organization has accomplished for our local military. If you are interested in supporting this cause, more information can be found here. Until next time, Amy
